Introduction

Hot-dip galvanizing involves creating an alloy layer through the reaction between molten metal and the iron substrate, thereby bonding the substrate and the coating together. The process begins by pickling steel components to remove the surface iron oxide. After pickling, the components are cleaned in an aqueous solution of ammonium chloride, zinc chloride, or a mixture of both, and then sent into the hot-dip galvanizing bath. Hot-dip galvanizing offers advantages such as uniform coating, strong adhesion, and long service life.

Hot-dip galvanizing is one of the effective methods to slow down the environmental corrosion of steel materials. It involves immersing steel products, whose surfaces have been cleaned and activated, into molten zinc. Through the reaction and diffusion between iron and zinc, a well-adhered zinc alloy coating is formed on the surface of the steel product. Compared with other metal protection methods, the hot-dip galvanizing process offers advantages in protective features that combine the physical barrier and electrochemical protection of the coating, the bonding strength between the coating and the substrate, the coating’s density, durability, maintenance-free nature, cost-effectiveness, and adaptability to the shape and size of the products. Currently, hot-dip galvanized products mainly include steel plates, steel strips, steel wires, and steel pipes, with hot-dip galvanized steel plates accounting for the largest proportion.
